Outpatient Joint Replacement

Recover in the Comfort of Your Home!

Chronic pain and stiffness in your knee, hip or shoulder can limit your quality of life and diminish participation in activities that you love. Orthopedic Associates can help. In addition to our 22 top surgeons, advanced procedures, five office locations and the compassionate care we provide to our patients, Orthopedic Associates offers something new to the Hudson Valley - hospital-free joint replacement in our own ambulatory surgery center attached to our Poughkeepsie office location.

“Orthopedic Associates is proud to announce the formation of our outpatient joint replacement center. With this new state-of-the-art facility, we will be able to provide outpatient joint replacements in an ambulatory surgery center for the first time in the Hudson Valley.” Dr. William Colman, Orthopedic Surgeon & Managing Partner.

The Surgery Center at Orthopedic Associates (SCOA) is a state-of-the-art ambulatory surgical facility. The surgeons and staff at SCOA are committed to providing professional and compassionate care for your orthopedic and pain management needs. As opposed to the traditional procedure, which requires a minimum one night hospital stay, the outpatient joint replacement procedure uses a technique that allows patients to go home hours after surgery. Studies have shown that patients who recover outside of a hospital setting tend to be happier and more comfortable.

Performing outpatient joint replacements at ASCs on the appropriate patient can realize a significant cost savings because ASCs are the lower cost site of service and the patient doesn't need to pay for long hospital stays.
ASC charges are significantly lower than those of a hospital, which translates for most patients to a significantly lower co-payment and overall cost of care.

Centers around the country have begun offering outpatient joint replacements to otherwise healthy patients equipped to undergo minimally invasive procedures in the outpatient setting. These patients often ambulate shortly after surgery and can be discharged home.
