JOINT REPLACEMENT Disabling and chronic pain and stiffness in the knees, hips, shoulders or other joints can make simple daily activities almost unbearable. Things like injury, age, and disease (like osteoarthritis and osteonecrosis) can damage the bone and/or cartilage in your joints, leaving you stiff and in pain.
When non-surgical treatments for painful joints fail, or in severely damaged joints, the quality of life may diminish such that even daily activities are hindered. At that time your doctor may consider joint replacement surgery, and will discuss the procedure with you. Joint replacement can give you years of pain-free living.
Although hip and knee replacements are the most common, Orthopedic Associates of Dutchess County can perform joint replacement on other joints, including the shoulder, elbow, and some finger joints.
